How Do Deepfakes Evolve From Fun Edits To Serious Risk Attempts?

Deepfake technology, a kind of artificial intelligence, enables the generation of fake data in the form of images, videos, and audio. Besides, new content can be easily created using deepfake technology, whether it is entirely original or derived from existing content. When a person needs to create a deepfake from available material, the swapping method is employed. Machine learning algorithms are trained using data from a single individual to produce a replica, thereby generating entirely new content.

Deepfake Examples in Real Life

It can be seen that this technology is mostly used for malicious purposes. As the technology evolves, fraudsters are also trying to make sophisticated and indistinguishable deepfakes. There are many examples of deepfakes in politics and other areas. But most commonly celebrities are targeted. Here are some of the examples of deepfakes:

1. Eminem’s Deepfake

A famous rapper Eminem was seen performing this year with a deepfake. He has performed with his alter ego Slim Shady. The stand-in actors were seen coping with the movements of Slim while Eminem’s face was entirely swapped. This digital character was brought back to life using advanced AI technology.

2. ‘Back to the Future’ Deepfake

The exact words were, “Due to a packaging error, we can’t sell 3,000 Le Creuset cookware sets. So I’m giving them away to my loyal fans

for free. But in reality, nothing like this ever happened. Deepfake detection can be an effective solution to prevent these spoofing attempts.

4. Deepfake Neighbour Wars Show

Conclusion

The technology behind deepfakes can have numerous fatal repercussions, both for individuals and for groups. It employs neural networks to create images and videos that are challenging for the human eye to distinguish. The most suitable method for organizations to safeguard their environment against fraudster attacks is deepfake detection technology. The government should conduct awareness campaigns to inform people about deepfake technology and address misinformation.
